I am getting a new Smart Meter, can I use Sparky on the new meter?

When you're replacing your smart meter

Updated today

Totally! Sparky’s all about sticking with you — even when your Smart Meter is getting an upgrade. But there are two super important things you need to do to make sure the switch goes smoothly. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back.

In short

  • Decouple Sparky before the old meter is taken offline!

  • Create a new address in the app before reconnecting Sparky

  • Plug Sparky into the new meter

  • Enjoy life with Sparky (again)!

Smart Meter swap? Sparky’s still in

You can absolutely keep using Sparky with your new Smart Meter. Just a couple of quick steps and you’ll be up and running.

What do I do before the installer arrives?

This part’s key: Open the Chargee app, go to your profile, and disconnect Sparky from your current address. Do this before the technician shuts off or removes your old meter. If you forget, it could cause setup issues later.

Why do I need to create a new address in the app?

Even if you’re not physically moving, the new meter counts as a new connection. So after the install, log back into your existing Chargee account, hit the house icon in the top right, and create a new address (you can even give it the same name as before if you like). Then you're ready to reconnect Sparky to your shiny new meter.

Anything special about installing Sparky on the new meter?

Nope — once the new address is set up, installation is the same as before. Plug in the USB-C and RJ12 cables, and you’re good to go!
