Make sure Sparky gets enough power

On older smart meters (SMR 4 and below), the P1 meter is not powered. In this case, you need a power adapter to make Sparky work. The supplied power adapter plugs directly into the side of Sparky.

With most meters, the SMR version is indicated on the front of the meter. Not sure which SMR version your meter has? Contact us with a picture of your smart meter so we can help you.

Click the RJ12 cable into the IN port of Sparky

Sparky has 2 ports: IN and OUT. Make sure you click the supplied RJ12 cable into the IN port of Sparky. Do you have a different type of Sparky? Then the RJ12 cable is already clicked into the correct port.

Using a splitter? Provide extra power

If you are using a splitter, because you are using other P1 hardware, there may not be enough power supply to forward the signal. Connect a power adapter to the splitter. Make sure you are using an active splitter.

Enable Bluetooth on your phone

To connect Sparky to the app, you need to have Bluetooth enabled on your phone and allow the Chargee app access to use Bluetooth.

Connect Sparky to a 2.4Ghz WiFi connection

If you choose a wifi network to connect Sparky, choose a 2.4Ghz WiFi connection. Sparky will not work on a 5Ghz wifi connection.

Connect Sparky correctly to the smart meter

Make sure that Sparky is correctly connected to the P1 port of your smart meter. Before connecting Sparky to your WiFi, the light will burn constantly. After successfully connecting to a WiFi network, the light flashes once every second or once every 10 seconds. If not, Sparky probably does not have enough power.

Reinstall the Chargee app

It may help to reinstall the Chargee app. If the app asks for specific permissions when installing, you must allow all of them. That way, the app can connect to Sparky.
